Welcome to the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) Support 245 team webpage. The MOFD Support team is a committed group of citizen volunteers interested in giving back to their community by providing support to the Fire District. Volunteering for the MOFD Support 245 Team is a rewarding opportunity for those who are organized, enthusiastic, and desire to help our firefighters protect our community. MOFD Support 245 volunteers provide logistics assistance in a variety of ways that allow the firefighters to focus on what they do best, fight fires.

Eligibility:

  • Must work/reside in or adjacent to the fire district
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license
  • Must have proof of car insurance
  • Must obtain a HAM and GMRS radio license
  • Must be willing and able to attend monthly meetings and various trainings
  • Must be willing to participate in Saturday morning radio net check-ins
  • Must have ability and willingness to respond at all hours/days when available

Volunteer Activities:

  • Support the logistical needs of the District at incidents and events
  • Staging/Planning – assist with staging area management and organization
  • Training exercises and drills
  • Assist with parking/traffic control and logistics at events or incidents
  • Evacuation exercise assistance
  • Provide the REHAB function at incidents and events - Procure, Transport, Set Up and Serve Food/Drinks for firefighters
  • Deploy to the field as necessary
  • Operate Assigned/Approved District Vehicles
  • Provide REHAB at Controlled burns
  • Support Lamorinda Cities/Agencies Through MOFD in disasters
  • Manage the “Support Unit” area/equipment at station 45
  • Radio Communication Support/ Drone Support during incidents and exercises

 Special projects

  • Coordinate Auxiliary Communications – Set up and run Department Operations Center
  • Programming/Charging/Maintenance of Radio Caches
  • Provide extra eyes and ears in the community during high fire danger days and special events, including July 4th
  • Firewatch During Red Flag or High Fire Danger Days
  • Set up RAWS Weather Station
  • Working Fire Station Open Houses
  • Maintain Generators
  • Maintain accurate and legible records of the Unit activities
  • Complete other appropriately assigned duties as needed
