Selling a home? The Fire Code requires the Seller to provide Buyers with a certificate of compliance with all real estate transactions. To obtain a certificate of compliance, you must first abate any exterior hazards.

Once the parcel has been brought into compliance, see below for the instructions on how to request a Certificate of Compliance. The Seller or Realtor can use the self-report function (free) or can request an in-person inspection (fee applies) by submitting a request via the on-line portal. Please see our fee schedule for the Property Sale or Transfer Inspection fee.
Please be informed:
- Obtaining a Certificate of Compliance is approximately two to three weeks.
- The Certificate of Compliance is valid for 90 days from the date of being issued.
Instructions on How to submit a Request for a Certificate of Compliance (Property Sale or Transfer Only)
- Enter Property Address
- In the “Describe Your Problem” field, please enter “Submitting a Self-Report for a Property Sale or Transfer” or "Requesting an Inspection for a Property Sale or Transfer"
- You must include the address or Assessor’s parcel number (APN).
- Drag/drop or upload images*, if any, in the box below.
- *Upload photos in the specified order as shown in the below diagram (photo #1, photo #2 front of house, etc.)
- Photos cannot be deleted once uploaded. (Maximum of 5 photos).
- Press SUBMIT
- Enter Contact Information
- Press SUBMIT CONTACT INFORMATION
- You will receive a confirmation e-mail.
