At a special Board Meeting on March 6, 2010 the Board of Directors of the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) chose the option of an appointment over a special election to fill the Board vacancy created by the recent resignation of Director Peter Wilson. The appointment option was chosen due to the cost and timing of a special election. The election rules require a minimum of 130 days between the date of posting and the election which would require an August 31, 2010 special election at a cost of over $26,000. The term for the appointment expires on December 3, 2010.
Individuals who are interested in serving on the MOFD Board of Directors, should submit a letter of interest with qualifications to Randy Bradley, MOFD Fire Chief, by March 16, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. (Postmarks will not be accepted.) To be considered for this vacant Board position, individuals must reside in Division 3 of the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, must be 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, a registered voter, and be able to take the oath of office. At the special Board Meeting on March 6, 2010, the MOFD Board of Directors also decided to form a Citizens' Ad-Hoc Advisory Panel to help with the selection process. The Advisory Panel will be comprised of registered voters within Division 3 who are 18 years of age and who will not be applying to be appointed to the vacant Board seat. Individuals interested in serving on the Advisory Panel should contract MOFD during normal business hours before March 16, 2010.
Individuals who apply for the vacant Board opening and those who are interested in serving on the Advisory Panel must be available on the scheduled interview dates of March 23, 24 and 25.
